While the artists were preparing and initiating the workshop process with community partners, I was planning ahead as far as possible to the point when we’d be ready to deliver the events before mid-November, our deadline from one of our funders, the BFI. Sensing Place is a different beast from most of the other events I’ve produced. Usually I know the programme and the plan for promoting it. This time, it was in the hands of the artists and the participants and it was likely we wouldn’t know the plan until close to the event.
To aid in this and to address the potential issue of me being based in Edinburgh (therefore geographically remote from the activity areas), we decided to contract an Event Manager based in Southern Scotland. We were so pleased when the fantastic Emily Tryon in Moniaive accepted our offer of joining the Sensing Place team and made such a difference to arranging workshops, liaising with venues and promoting the events.
